The winner of the 2007/2008 NNDCC scholarship of $750.00 is Julie Kennedy of Warwick High School. Julie will be attending Mary Washington University.                  Congratulations!!!!!!The Newport News Democratic City Committee is pleased to announce the second year of offering of a scholarship to a college-bound high school senior living in Newport News.  Our Committee unanimously and proudly elected to increase this scholarship to $750 this year!!!

The scholarship will be paid to the college or university at which the scholarship recipient has been accepted.

The scholarship recipient will be recognized at their high school awards assembly and a news release will be sent to all local media outlets.                                                Selection Criteria

Applicants must complete the application form, submit an official transcript and other required materials to the Newport News Democratic City Committee postmarked no later than May 15, 2008.   The completed application packet should be mailed to:                                                        NNDCC Scholarship Committee                                                                            P.O.  The scholarship will be awarded based on the applicant’s essay, high school achievements, civic activities, grade point average and letters of recommendation from a teacher/guidance counselor AND a non-relative mentor.

You must submit a 500 – 750 word essay describing a political or government policy that concerns you and why you feel the policy is important.  Please include a discussion of what you think needs to be done to change this policy and what you, as an individual, can do to affect that change.
